LCC Academic Booster Club
Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, August 16, 2011
Members Present: Sheryl Huffman, Martha Kahle, Kathy Kidd, Danette Swick.
I. Call to Order – Sheryl Huffman at 10:10 a.m.
II. Discussions regarding meeting layout format. Evening meetings this year will include either a speaker or department head presentation. Daytime meetings will be strictly business meetings. All are invited to both. The September meeting will feature our new president Walt Klimaski and/or Dean Brinkman. Meeting dates were established and verified.
III. Treasurer’s Report – Kathy Kidd handed out a proposed budget. Income totaled $3,300.00 and is attached. Budget was approved.
IV. Committee Reports
A. Communication – Danette Swick
1. Chimes newspaper has been updated consistently with bimonthly issue.
2. Lima News - next ad would be the ap scholar ad in Sept.
3. Academic Showcase - Elizabeth Kahle and Elizabeth Kidd are willing to update the display case this year again. Danette Swick will feed them the information via email.
B. Advertising – no report.
C. Fundraising
1. Dine-Out Program – Happy Daz still main funding source. 2. 2011 Annual Donation Letter for religion books totaled 94 books at $5,620. –
a. Targeted mailing – active parishioners only.
b. The following needs were presented for consideration in the letter:
· Textbooks for grades 9 & 10 were purchased last year for the 2010-11 school year at an estimated cost of $11,500. Textbooks for grades 11 & 12 will be purchased this year for the 2011-12 school year at an estimated cost of $11,500. Donors were offered the opportunity to purchase textbooks in honor or memory of an individual. Place cards were stuck on the inside of the front cover of each book.
V. Old Business
A. ACT Prep Class – scheduled to be offered in Spring only for the April 14, 2012 test. Danette Swick to recruit instructors.
B. Awards Banquet - deplete Potash funds by purchasing award pins/certificates for upcoming years. Danette Swick to discuss with Summer Parker sponsor for next year.
C. State send off treat bags - Martha Kahle to recruit a person to be in charge of this.
D. Academic Newsletter - Danette Swick to discuss with Julie Thaxton re the LCC newspaper staff to take over this responsibility using our existing template.
E. 2011 Academic Booster Brochure - Danette Swick will update the form asap from Sheryl Huffman's modifications. It will be sent to Martha Kahle who will print off the copies for each student to be passed out at the student schedule pick-up day at a station.
F. Teacher Luncheon for 2012 - Martha Kahle to recruit a person to coordinate.
VI. New Business
A. Teacher Luncheon - Walt Klimaski has asked if the Academic Boosters would host a luncheon for the faculty on Tuesday, August 23, 2012. Sheryl Huffman will order wraps from Ann Ross Catering/order tablecloths/make ramen salad, Tami Stanford will take care of drinks/desserts/supplies, Danette Swick will bring fruit salad. Sheryl and Danette will staff the function. Estimated count is 43.
VII. Adjournment – Meeting adjourned at 11:38 a.m.
