PURPOSE
Founded in 2007, the LCC Academic Booster Club is a partnership among administration, faculty, parents, students, and the community which supports, promotes, and celebrates academic excellence at LCC.

PRIDE
* Advance Placement Scholars
Aubrey Butts and Mitchell Guenther both earned the honor of AP Scholar with Distinction for receiving an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grade of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Brian Bruin, Adam Geiger, and Will Paton earned the honor of AP Scholar for receiving grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. LCC offers AP courses in Biology, Chemistry, European History, and U.S. History. Students may take additional tests if they independently prepare for them.
*Junior Engineering Technical Society - Coached by Dave Rufener
ONU hosted the JETS competition and LCC's 9th/10th team finished 1st in Ohio among small schools. Team members are Molly Clements, Shanna Farler, Connor Mahler, Max Odum, Sarah Pajka, Jaeger Schlumpberger,
Bobby Sunderhaus, and Alex Swick.
LCC JETS 11th/12th team finished in 6th place regionally, and 5th in Ohio in the small school division. The 11th/12th grade team members included
Ally Allman, Sean Clements, Michael Frankart, Zach Jamal,
Michael Kahle, Shayna Niese, Gage Odom, and Billy Taflinger.
*Academic Quiz Bowl Team - Coached by Mike & Trudy Thompson
The Academic Quiz Bowl JV Team captured the Northwest Conference Title.
JV team members were: Gabe Akers, Molly Clements, Michael Frankart,
Nicole Joseph, Lauren McNamara, Sarah Pajka, Alex Wade, & Anthony Wolfe.
*Math Contests - Coached by Trudy Thompson
- American Mathematics Competition (AMC) – top scorers were Michael Kahle (1st), Nicole Johnston (2nd), and Ally Allman (3rd) for the AMC 12 and Alex Swick (1st) for the AMC 10.
- Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics – Sean Clements placed 7th & Michael Kahle 8th among 80 regional scores.
- Bluffton University Math – Alex Swick placed 2nd in the
9/10 division and 6th overall among 118 participants.
- Michael Kahle scored a perfect 6/6 on the latest Math League test.
*Science Olympiad - Coached by Dave Rufener
Science Olympiad is North America’s most prestigious team science and technology competition. Out of 20 regional high schools, the following students placed in their regional events:
Colton & Jaeger Schlumpberger – 2nd Place - Microbe Mission
Michael Frankart & Zach Jamal – 3rd Place - Remote Sensing
Nicole Joseph & Alex Swick –3rd Place - Dynamic Planet

Max Brodbeck was one of 111 student-athletes named to the Ohio High School Football Association’s 2010 Academic All Ohio Football Team.

*State Speech Competition - Coached by Mattie Hamby
Congratulations to Steven Alderman for qualifying & participating in the state tournament in the Impromptu Speaking category. Steven made it through 4 rounds at the state competition.
*DECA Competitions - Coached by Barb Schwinnen
Fantastic results from the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference in Columbus:
· Ryan Terry - 1st Place - Math Application in Business (1st of 48 competitors)
· Daniel Andrews & Raquel Dominguez - National Qualifiers/3rd Place - Business Law And Ethics Team Event
· Ronald Sampson – 7th Place - Principles of Business Management and Administration Event
· Nicole Cross – 9th Place - In Quick Serve Restaurant Management Series Event
At the DECA district competition hosted by Bluffton University, the following marketing students earned the right to compete at the state level:

Accepted into Capital University Reading Band Clinic - Janina Bradshaw (clarinet); Michael Shanahan (percussion).
Accepted into St. Norbert College H.S. Honors Band, Wisconsin - Kyle Ferris (drums), Cheyenne Patterson (flute), and Michael Shanahan (drums).
Lima Senior District 3 Solo/Ensemble Competition -
· Receiving superior ratings: Janina Bradshaw (vocal & clarinet); Jessica Kimball (vocal); Noel Shanahan (viola)
· Receiving excellent ratings: Sophia DePalma (euphonium); Olivia DePalma (tuba); Celeste Shanahan (vocal); LCC Brass Trio (Jane Knapke, Olivia DePalma, Sophia DePalma).
PROGRESS
*Funding - The Academic Booster Club funded these items requested by the teachers and approved by the administration:
- Music Department – software to create lesson plans for student evaluation with annual subscription for $251.
- Math Department - TI-89 calculator for $143.82 and math diagramming software (3 items) for $150.
*Income - Potash Corporation's generous donation last year, allowed us to also underwrite expenses for this year's Academic Letter Awards Ceremony. Through March, the Dine-out program has earned $456.49. Through March, the ACT Prep Class taught by LCC faculty has earned $2,856 (fall session = 23 students; winter session = 11 students).
*Faculty Appreciation Events - The Academic Boosters treated the faculty and staff to an elegant appreciation luncheon in February. They were also treated to a soup and sub meal during the parent/teacher conferences in November.
PLANS
*Academic Letter Awards Ceremony
The Academic Letter Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 19. To earn an Academic Letter, sophomores, juniors, and seniors must maintain a specified GPA. Academic award winners are then eligible to apply for a Career Mentorship in which students can spend a quarter with local professionals exploring possible career choices.
