Each of the Lima Catholic parishes generously provides tuition subsidy to LCC for their parishioners. Over the years, there has arisen some confusion as to what constitutes a participating parishioner.  Beginning with the 2010-11 academic year, the parishes will initiate standards based on the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church for designating a practicing parishioner who is eligible for tuition subsidy.

We have a moral obligation to remind all, of the importance of Sunday Mass attendance.  An actively participating Catholic is expected not simply to attend Sunday Mass but also to provide some form of stewardship in the parish, financial or ministerial, and support at home the values we teach as a Catholic Community. One who is a practicing Catholic is registered in the parish, is active there, and attends Mass on all holy days of obligation. Because one who believes in Jesus Christ wants and searches for a deeper relationship with Him, participation in the Eucharist is central to our faith life.

Our Catholic Schools exist to aid those who believe. Because the members of your parish recognize their responsibility to support this effort, they have agreed to provide an annual subsidy for each child who attends LCC and is active in the parish. This subsidy will continue unless the family’s status changes or the student withdraws from LCC. The status will be evaluated periodically by your parish. Should these standards pose excessive difficulties for your family, please feel free to contact your parish to discuss the matter.

Finally, please return the included letter to your parish office to confirm that your family is registered by May 31st.  If you do not wish to receive the parish subsidy, you may simply not reply.

RE:       Parish Subsidy

_________________________, the parents or guardians of ________________ are registered parishioners and in good standing. They are active in our parish and regularly attend Sunday Eucharist. On our part, we agree to pay an annual subsidy of $800. per student at LCC unless the family’s status changes or the student withdraws.  A status change may be determined based on a student’s consistent absence from Sunday Eucharist. Upon any changes in status, LCC agrees to contact the parish and asks the parish to do the same for clarity sake. On agreement between the parish and LCC if the family is not registered or not regularly attending Sunday Eucharist, the tuition subsidy will be charged to the family of the student.

Sincerely Yours,
