The purpose of the National Honor Society is to set examples of service, character, leadership and scholarship. Applicants are evaluated for membership based upon these four criteria. Members are expected to participate in the NHS service activities, model exemplary character, and demonstrate scholarly excellence.
Cumulative GPA
In the fall of each year those juniors and seniors who have a cumulative 3.70 GPA or higher and have attended LCC for at least one semester will be notified of their eligibility to apply for membership in the NHS.
Activity Points
Applicants are considered based on activity points, letters of recommendation, and disciplinary record. The application form asks the student to list activities in which he or she participated during high school. A student is given one point per activity per year (or per season for athletics). Points are given for school-related activities as well as community activities. Community activities must be volunteer and can't be an activity in which the student pays for (e.g. - music lessons). Juniors need a minimum of 15 points and seniors need a minimum of 20 points.
